Choosing essay topics is important for a student. You must choose those essay topics that you are confident of writing on. It is important that you can present your feelings in a clear and effective manner. There are many essay topics that you can use in your essay. For example, you can talk about your career goals, or write about an experience or incident that affected you deeply. To help understand the difference between a good essay and an average (or poor) essay, essay examples can be of great help. It goes without saying that essay examples should be grammatically accurate, and presented in an honest manner. Essay examples should follow standard essay formats (APA, MLA etc.). You must remember that an essay example should have a serious tone to it, or in other words, it should not be humorous.

Personal essays, also known as personal narratives, allow the writer to express himself in a rather bold manner. Such essays help gauge the writer`s ability to write on a given topic in an engaging manner. As the name suggests, a personal essay is more or less a personal perspective. While writing a personal essay, ensure that the rhythm and pace of the essay is smooth. There should be more opinions than facts. Try to avoid using philosophical rants to impress the reader. Capturing the reader`s attention is important to writing a successful personal essay. You should try using metaphors, quotations, and questions to connect with the reader. You should try to follow evocative writing while completing such an essay. While an essay gives you the freedom to thank and express your feelings, it also tests your ability to substantiate your opinion or feeling on the subject you had chosen. In general, a personal essay should start with an introductory paragraph, followed by three paragraphs illustrating your point, and one final paragraph summarizing your opinion.

This same four-sentence paragraph structure may be used to develop the expected three main paragraphs in the example essay (one main paragraph for each of the three main points in the thesis statement) as well as any subparagraphs for each main paragraph. Using the example introductory paragraph developed in this article, might the reader have developed an effective understanding of the four-sentence basic paragraph structure illustrated to create the expected three main paragraphs for this essay example? Try it!

Your essay must have strong roots, and support one side of the argument. And example of this would be if you are writing your essay about immigration laws, you might shed a light on the social issues that are involved concerning illegal immigration. And what hardships Americans face due to the overwhelming population of illegal aliens. The facts that are included in the argumentative essay must relate directly to the theme of your essay. Do not falsify or exaggerate any facts that support or oppose your point of view; this can be misleading to the reader and have an adverse affect on the quality of your essay. Even though you essay may contain very good information, one false piece of information can ruin your entire essay. You can input ideas into your essay, but be sure they are in direct relation to the facts that you have already provided in the essay.

In general, an essay is structured in three parts -- an introduction, the body, the conclusion. Think of the introduction as a single paragraph designed to introduce the thesis statement. Often persons build an introductory paragraph before having developed an effective thesis statement indicating less than the most effective organization of thinking about the topic of a paper! In this article, using an example thesis statement, the development of an introductory paragraph for an actual essay assignment is described.
